I can say there are two things in life that I dread – death and heartbreak. Both are inevitable, but it’s the latter that can sometimes feel like dying without the resting in peace part. So, with that said, I came across Aleon Craft’s “Cosmic Valentine” on Valentine’s day. The perfect time or wrong time depending on how you slice it.
I’ve never been a big fan of Valentine’s day and not because it has to be the cheesiest consumer holiday of the year, but because in all honesty my experience with love and relationships hasn’t been worth celebrating in any capacity. Sorry Cupid, but the Easter Bunny has more cred with me than you and that’s just being real. Anyway, who would have thought that other than the guys mentioned in my previous post, the homie Craft has been feeling some kind of blue himself? Thankfully, his hurt, fun, confusion and longing for understanding in relationships parlays itself into one of the most entertaining EP’s I’ve heard this year.
Whether he’s haunted by love and the unknown of a new relationship on “Terrified” or somewhere caught in limbo between his heart and another (“Break Room”), Craft’s journey sounds like a sonic adventure in exploring what draws us together and tears us apart.
Or as the press release says:
“Cosmic Valentine includes 7 stories of pain, joy, happiness and love,” says Craft. The EP is a collabartive effort with SMKA and features Dreamer & C#Sharp. Aleon Craft has already begun working on extending Cosmic Valentine and plans on releasing a deluxe edition the first week of March.
